The Oscar Winner:
At the 77th Academy Awards on Febriary 27 at the Kodak Theatre, Hilary Swank, who won Best Actress as a fatalistic boxer in Million Dollar Baby, was a knockout in a dark navy Guy Laroche creation with a daringly plunging bareback.
Million Dollar Baby, directed by Clint Eastwood who also stars as veteran boxing trainer Frankie Dunn who reluctantly mentors Swank's Fitzgerald character, based on the 2000 book Rope Burns: Stories From The Corner by F.X. Toole (the pen name of long-time fight manager Jerry Boyd), will be merely the fifth boxing film to be up for Best Picture.
Celebrity in Oscar dresses:
For days after the big show, we always still talk Oscar fashions. And Number One on the Oscar dresses debate list is Hilary Swank's long, extremely tight-fitting blue gown by Guy Laroche. The neckline was strange, the bust area was too sheer and the open back was dangerously low. Yes, her body is amazing - and normally, she's a true knockout.
The New York Times reported that the Oscar dress caused a mini-scandal in the design world. She had reportedly been working with Calvin Klein designer Francisco Costa for two weeks on a gown but changed her mind at the last minute. Calvin Klein can't be too happy, given that Swank is paid to hawk the company's underwear.
