Badgley Mishka is no stranger to Oscar's red carpet. So it was fitting that the company's first ready-to-wear campaign reflected the connection to the great Badgley Mishka' Oscar Dresses. For 2001 spring campaign, Ellen Von Unwerth shot documentary style photos to achieve a "behind-the-scenes at the Oscars" feeling. Art directed by Deborah Moses of Moses Media, the four page spreads feature models Amy Lemons, Jacquetta and Liisa Winkler, Erin O'Conner and Danita. The ads broke in the March issue of Vogue and run in the April "Hollywood" issue of Vanity Fair. According to sources, the company spent about $500,000 on the spring 2001 campaign. The ads were in sync with Badgley Mishka's spring collection that was inspired by the glamour and lifestyle of Southern California. The design duo opened their first freestanding store in Beverly Hills September 2000.
